New England Construction Cones

Tell anyone you’re driving north to Maine in the fall and the first thing they’ll mention is the colors on the trees.

I typically savor every shade in every shape but this drive felt different. I was not indulged by nature’s tranquility off a 5 lane highway. Probably just the end of the season but everything looked darker than I remember. Like film dulled the stage lights and I unreasonably expected spotlights. The house staff says “hey that’s the way it goes” and I take it as they didn’t want me to see the whole show.

Some psychiatrist might be proud how I tried to self-manipulate into consciously recognizing as many objects as possible, but I focused mostly on the construction cones.
